We sure are close to the rapture. Unfortunately, a lot of Christians don't believe/understand the rapture. Update: 10/1/2007, I recommend you read a new writing: Once Saved Always Saved? either before or after this artice because this article really helps you understand the Lord since most of it quotes Jesus Christ, the one that will be rapturing us soon. Here are some quotes that should give you comfort:

Jesus was quoted in regards to endtimes: (This is my favorite one, because it's from JESUS CHRIST!) Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things [endtimes] that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man. Luke 21:36

Apostle Paul wrote in Thesaloneans regarding endtimes:
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ will rise first: Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. Thesalonians 4:13-18
Apostle Paul also wrote in Corrinthians: "Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed - in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." 1 cor 15:51-53

And in the Old Testament, Malachi, a prophet of God, wrote regarding endtimes: I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him. Malachi 4:17 You see we know he was talking about the endtimes because he calls it the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he also mentions that the Lord is going to send Elijah the prophet, therefore we know that he will be one of the witnesses.

In revelations, Jesus states the following about believers: "Because you have kept my command to persever, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown." Rev. 3:10-11

There are many more verses that refer to the rapture, but I can't remember them all. I will add them as I get a chance. Also, feel free to email me if you come up with any. Remember, the Word of God is alive, it's Jesus Christ. The Bible is the Word of God and therefore alive - Jesus Christ. Hence, scripture comes alive at a certain point in time. The Holy Spirit opens our eyes to it. That's why you want to continue to read the Bible. You say it's full of inaccuracies, because of evolution, and that's why it was written by man. But it's not full of inaccuracies, because God made everything an adult with the appearance of a past, just like He made Adam and Eve adults. Do you think God would not give us a manual to operate on, as insane and crazy as life is? Think about it, He wants people with the love of God in their hearts, Jesus Christ; not people with the hatred of satan in their hearts, who stand on their morality and logic with reckless disregard to their shortcomings in: 1. morality 2. intelligence. Let's face it, our science (intelligence) is "crap!". Every year we come up with holes to our theories from evolution to medical science, e.g. evolution has a missing link between the java man and the neandrethal (modern man) and in the center of every galaxy there's a black hole whereby space and time are invalidated-rendering the theory of relativity "crap!!" And what exactly is a black hole which is so powerful as to turn billions of stars in a spiral and thus power our universe? A big NOTHING. God put it there to show us how stupid we are. As Jesus Christ said: "for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." Luk 18:14 Medical science negates itself every year stating one thing one year and the next finding it to cause cancer or not to be nutritious and so on. These are facts that no one can negate. You say life doesn't make any sense, "Bingo". It's not supposed to: "it's a test". Read further because I'm going to nail you.

Now my science believing friends say this is because our science is always improving as we are learning more. And I say exactly, why do you want to make hard decisions against God and the Grace/Word of God: Jesus Christ when you know that our science ain't got it together? (Think of the shotcomings mentioned above.) And who can stand on their morality when if I step on your foot, to your surprise, you will feel enmity against me. Did I do it on purpose or not??? That's why those that don't accept Christ will account for everyone of their deeds and judged on their standard. As Jesus Christ said: "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." Luk 6:37-38. You say you don't judge? Bullshit, you cannot live without judging. You walk down the street and someone looks dangerous: "you just judged!" Oh you say that's okay. Think about how many times you've judged inaccurately. You say "look man, I'm just human"--exactly!!!! Bingo!!! Or look at the concept of infinity: I say it again our science is "crap!!!" and it will never, ever catch up. Look at infinity it never ends. It is proof of eternity. If you're as smart as you think you are, then give yourself credit "think hard on this." Now think of eternity, do you really want to bet against it?
